Echelon didn't come out of a startup accelerator. It came out of a family landscape construction business — and years of doing the admin at the kitchen table after doing the real work all day.
We couldn't find the system we wanted, so I built it.
For years I helped run our family's landscape construction business. The work was the easy part — we were good at the work. What ground us down was everything around it: quotes that took a whole evening to write and another week of “did you get a chance to look at that?” follow-ups that never got sent. Calls that rang out while we were on the tools — and every missed call was a job that went to whoever picked up. Invoices that lagged the work by weeks because nobody had time to sit down and do them. Customers we'd worked for three times whose gate code and dog's name lived only in somebody's head.
We tried what was out there. Everything was either a bloated dispatch suite built for 50-truck fleets, a pile of single-purpose apps that didn't talk to each other — with us as the glue — or software that clearly had never spent a day on a job site.
So Echelon is the system we actually wanted: it writes the quote the way you'd say it out loud, chases the silence, turns the done job into the invoice, and remembers every customer like it was there. You do the work you're actually good at. It does the rest.
